What's your favorite thing to do? Chances are, you'll find more than a few outlets for it in Raleigh. The City of Oaks has a million and one fun activities to choose from! Go for a hike at William B. Umstead State Park or a swim at nearby Jordan Lake. Want to do some shopping? Take your pick of the Crabtree Valley Mall, home to both specialty boutiques and all your favorite major retailers, or the upscale and swanky North Hills.
Are you a music fan? Raleigh has plenty of world-class entertainment venues like PNC Arena or Red Hat Amphitheater, as well as hole-in-the-wall dive bars like Slims, Kings, and Deep South. Wake up early on Saturdays to tailgate and cheer on the NC State Wolfpack, or catch a hockey match featuring our very own Carolina Hurricanes. Weekends (and weekdays) are always a blast when you live in Raleigh!

Raleigh may have all the amenities of a big city, but it still offers plenty of wide open spaces and bountiful outdoor areas to explore! We already mentioned the vast and beautiful William B. Umstead Park, but there's plenty of other fun ways to get outside and enjoy nature in the City of Oaks. In fact, Raleigh offers more than 200 parks for residents to play in, many offering things like tennis courts, pools, paved greenways, sports facilities, art centers, amusements, and more Go for a leisurely stroll at Lake Wheeler, Shelley Lake, Lake Lynn, or Lake Johnson, where you can observe wildlife in a tranquil area.
Looking for a playground or amusement center? You can't go wrong with a trip to Pullen Park, one of Raleigh's oldest parks.
Moving to the greater Raleigh area with kids? You're in luck: Raleigh is served by the award-winning Wake County Public School System. With plenty of year-round and traditional school models, a record number of board-certified teachers, and plenty of specialized academic programs and extracurricular activities, WCPSS is a leader in modern education.
Did someone say dinner? You're going to love all the shopping and dining options in Raleigh. Let's begin with food! A city for foodies, this community is home to dozens of award-winning restaurants that provide unforgettable cuisine. Some of our favorites include Poole's Downtown Diner and the Raleigh Times Bar, with great dessert options at Bitter Sweet.
Due to its diverse population, you'll also find plenty of unique ethnic restaurants scattered throughout Raleigh. Sample Laotian cuisine at Bida Manda or have the tastiest dim sum of your life at the famous and eclectic Brewery Bhavana (its a dim sum restaurant, flower shop, book store, and brewery).
Raleigh is quickly becoming a hub for big tech companies and start-ups alike. The current unemployment rate is just 3.3%, a full percentage point lower than the state of North Carolina. Some of the area's biggest employers include the State of North Carolina, IBM Corporation, North Carolina State University, Duke University and Health System, and WakeMed Health & Hospitals.
